Imagine your business has an office building. Your email service (like Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace) is your office, and your email address is your postal address. Right now, all your mail—good and bad—is delivered directly to your front door.
Setting up Symantec Email Safeguard is like hiring a highly advanced, off-site security and sorting office to handle all your incoming mail before it ever reaches your building. The setup is straightforward:
- You Tell Symantec Who You Are: First, you tell Symantec what your company's email addresses are (e.g. all emails ending in @mybusiness.com). This lets their system know which emails it needs to protect.
- You Change Your Postal Address: This is the most important step. You make a simple change in your public internet records (called an 'MX record'). This change tells the internet's postal service, "Instead of sending mail for @mybusiness.com directly to our office, send it to Symantec's security office first." This is a quick and standard procedure that your IT support can handle easily.
- Symantec Starts Filtering: Immediately after that change, all incoming emails are automatically rerouted through Symantec's powerful security systems. It happens instantly and invisibly in the background. Your employees won't notice any difference, except for a big reduction in unwanted emails coupled with daily or weekly summaries of what's been blocked.
